Google has recently announced the upcoming removal of People Cards from its search feature. These People Cards, or “Add Me to Search” feature, was launched by Google India, giving individuals the opportunity to create a digital business card of sorts that could be found in Google Search. However, Google has now revealed that as of April 2022, it will discontinue the feature globally.
The concept behind People Cards was to offer a platform for entrepreneurs, freelancers, influencers and others to promote themselves online. Users would create their People Card containing information such as their job, title, location and more. The feature has been popular and widespread, especially in regions where a large part of the population isn’t traditionally represented on the web. However, due to undisclosed reasons, Google has decided to remove this feature.
A key takeaway from this move by Google is a reminder that digital marketing methods and tools are constantly in flux. Therefore, marketers need to remain adaptable, exploring multiple avenues for establishing their brand’s online presence. In spite of the removal of features like People Cards, numerous other tools and platforms exist for businesses and professionals to market themselves effectively. Understanding and accepting this dynamic is an integral part of being successful in the digital marketing landscape.
